Why Another Blog?

Life is always full….and as a midwife, boy mom, non profit founder, boutique clothing buyer, church goer, and wifey to an adventurous husband….adding a new baby girl has my life fuller than ever!

Because of my involvement in the birth world, I receive questions on a daily basis. Whether they come personally, or through social media, the fact is that as life gets busier, it’s harder to take the focused time I need to respond. Enter The Dallas Midwife Life!

This blog was birthed (pun intended) as a place for me to organize my experience and lifestyle in a way that I can easily share it with others. I do not have all the answers, and will never claim to. The opinions and advice you find here are simply the product of trial and error, birth and boys, moms and meals, etc.

The goal of this blog is to discuss resources for moms and families that stem from my own lifestyle and experience. My passions include holistic living, clean beauty, mom style, healthy eating, pregnancy tips, natural parenting, and related products that support these topics.

The birth of my oldest son Brody was set to be a natural birth in nice hospital with a beach view in Newport Beach, CA. To say that his birth did not go as planned is an understatement, and while I had the beach view…I do not remember it. I was on a lot of medication due to the complication of pre-eclampsia with HELLP syndrome. Fun right? In fact, I don’t remember the first 24 hours after he was born.

Feeling relatively traumatized by his birth, I began a journey of trying to give him the best start by incorporating clean living into our lives. The thing is…I was not a “hippy”, and was only 23. I loved style, keeping him trendy, and enjoying my city life. Still, slowly I began to learn how to incorporate holistic living in a way that still allowed for all of those things (more to come on that in the future).

Fast foreword to when Brody was 4 and I was a few months pregnant with our second, I embarked on the journey to become a doula. I felt that, had I hired a doula with my first baby, I could have had a better birth.

6 years passed as I grew a busy doula business, fostered 4 baby newborns, become a lactation consultant, and took a deep dive into nutrition and herbs. I then decided to take the next step and become a licensed midwife.

Being a midwife allows me to put to use my love of nutrition and holistic care with my clients. When I first decided on this life, my husband would make jokes about me turning into an anti-hospital, anti current fashion birth worker with a soapbox to stand on. Though I rolled my eyes at that exaggeration, I do find that many holistic professionals have a difficult time relating to the average person.

I have often joked that I am “under cover crunchy” or “glamour and granola.” While I am holistically minded, I am ALSO obsessed with my eyelash extensions, prefer a painted nail, and could live in Lululemon. It seems that some people tend to listen to me a little easier, realizing that I’m not proposing they give up their favorite things, or the essence of who they are.

You can be a mom, and still be a hot-mamma.

You can be holistic, and enjoy a fine dinner out.

You can give up traditional toxic deodorants, without smelling like old socks and patchouli (buuuuut, I do admit that I have grown to love patchouli).

Excited to share this journey with you! Subscribe and join me!
